Its site lists a New Lenox showroom on Cedar Road and says it sells and installs fireplaces and wood stoves, and can add a wood-burning insert to an existing fireplace. It has been in business since 1995. Ask whether its installers hold a New Lenox Contractor Registration and who files the remodeling permit.

Inside the village, permits come from the Building Department, part of Community Development at Village Hall, 1 Veterans Parkway (815-462-6490). Its Residential Remodeling Permits Guide says applications can be filed in person or by mail and must list every contractor, each with a valid New Lenox registration. Most remodeling fees are based on estimated project cost, shown as $8 per $1,000 for remodeling, with a $25 fee for each failed inspection. Wood stoves are not on the BS&A online permit list, which covers furnaces and water heaters, so email buildinginspections@newlenox.net before buying. The village enforces the 2018 residential, mechanical and fire codes with local amendments.
Village of New Lenox: Residential Remodeling Permits Guide (updated August 2023, PDF)New Lenox’s remodeling guide says that when alterations requiring a permit are made, the whole house must have smoke detectors placed as for a new home, though they need not be interconnected unless walls are opened. Carbon monoxide detectors must be within 10 feet of every bedroom; for remodeling they may run on batteries. A wood stove adds a combustion source, so budget for alarms alongside the stove and expect the inspector to look for them.
Village of New Lenox: Residential Remodeling Permits Guide (updated August 2023, PDF)New Lenox adopts the 2018 International Mechanical Code in Sec. 18-51, and Sec. 18-52 (Ord. No. 2791, 2019) adds that ‘Appendix A Chimney Connector Pass-Throughs shall be adopted.’ Appendix A covers how a connector may run through a combustible wall to reach a chimney. If your stove pipe must pass through a wall rather than straight up into a flue, ask the installer to show how the detail meets that appendix.
New Lenox Code Sec. 18-52, Mechanical Code special provisions (Municode)Contractors applying online must log in to a BS&A contractor account, which needs a web PIN from Building Inspections, and must hold a current, valid New Lenox Contractor Registration. Homeowners doing work on their own primary residence can apply without a contractor account by certifying that they are the owner. Ask your stove installer whether it is already registered, since an unregistered firm will hold up the permit.

The village’s BS&A online list covers furnaces, water heaters, generators and similar items but does not mention wood stoves or inserts. Yes. The village says a building permit cannot be issued until every contractor working on the project is registered, and contractors applying online also need a BS&A account linked with a web PIN. If you are doing the work yourself on your own home, you can apply as the homeowner.
Its remodeling guide says permitted alterations trigger smoke detectors throughout the house, placed as for new homes, and carbon monoxide detectors within 10 feet of every bedroom. Battery CO detectors are allowed for remodeling work. Check alarms before the inspector arrives and before the first fire.
