Inside Gahanna, the Division of Building issues permits, reviews plans, inspects construction and enforces building regulations from City Hall at 200 South Hamilton Road. Since May 2024 all applications and inspection requests go through the city’s OpenGov portal, and paper applications are no longer accepted. The city’s permit matrix marks HVAC work as needing a building permit, and its fee schedule names a prefab fireplace or wood burning stove, and a chimney replacement or new vent, as examples of a Minor Limited Scope HVAC permit. Ask which application type to choose for your stove, insert or liner. Plumbing permits come from Franklin County Public Health.
Gahanna PermittingGahanna’s Zoning Code, adopted in 2024, zones the old-town core as Creekside Mixed-Use and Creekside Residential, with façade-material and roof standards. Sections 1107.01 and 1107.03 say those design standards do not apply to lots that contain only a one-unit or two-unit dwelling, and FireplaceLab found no separate historic-district review for houses. The code also exempts chimneys from minimum setbacks and lets them rise above a district’s height limit, up to 120 percent of the maximum. Confirm with the Zoning Division before choosing a vent route.
